From its headquarters in the heart of Sheffield it delivers skills and training to help learners reach their potential and organisations to thrive. The group includes business units specialising in regulated UK and international qualifications, End Point Assessment, Access to Higher Education, assured short courses, SMART job cards, assessment services, consultancy, and research. As an Ofqual regulated Awarding Organisation, NOCN assesses and awards qualifications that help people build meaningful careers in a range of subjects including construction, retail and finance. It is one of the main providers of Functional Skills Maths and English, working with colleges and training providers to improve levels of adult numeracy and literacy. The organisation is one of the biggest providers of construction skills qualifications in the UK, through its specialist sector arm Cskills Awards. It supports a broad range of skills including traditional bricklaying, heritage skills and modern techniques such as steel fixing and off-site manufacture. It recently added to its services for construction by acquiring the Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS). NOCN is one of the market leaders for apprentice end point assessment as part of the reformed apprenticeship programme. It works in partnership with employers and training providers to provide independent, robust assessment of apprentices in sectors including construction, finance, health and science, manufacturing and engineering.
