Sheffield’s leading older people’s charity Sheffield Churches Council for Community Care (SCCCC) received a letter of thanks from Her Majesty the Queen after holding a spectacular Platinum Jubilee celebration for vulnerable, isolated people across the city.
Back in June, SCCCC invited 170 older people from across Sheffield to enjoy a very special Queens’ Platinum Jubilee celebration. The guests were treated to a fabulous afternoon tea and live entertainment, there was singing, dancing and laughter.
The charity wrote to Her Majesty to tell her all about the wonderful celebration, sending photos and sharing feedback from the guests about how special the day had been for them.
SCCCC ‘s Chief Executive Officer, Mark Storey was delighted to receive the letter that was postmarked from Buckingham Palace
“We wanted to let Her Majesty know what a fantastic day we had had celebrating her 70-year reign so I suggested writing a letter. When the envelope arrived we all gathered around to see what was inside.
It was such an honour to hear that the Queen had seen photos and heard about the impact the event had on the lives of isolated older people. Many of whom hadn’t left their homes for years due to the pandemic”
In the letter her Majesty’s Lady-in-waiting wrote:
The Queen wishes me to write and thank you for your letter about the work of Sheffield Churches Council for Community Care and the event you hosted for Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.
Her Majesty was touched to know how much this opportunity to gather together was valued by those of your guests who experienced loneliness and isolation, particularly after a very challenging few years.
It has given The Queen great pleasure to hear about celebrations such as this which have been taking place to mark this historic year.
Mark Storey CEO said
“We are all totally devastated by the news of Her Majesty’s passing, our hearts go out to her family and the people of the world. Many of us have grown up with a constant in our lives, our monarch. This news will no doubt have a huge impact on our older generations, with many of whom will have seen the young princess become their Queen.”
Ericka Hill, Fundraiser, Marketing and Communications Officer at SCCCC said
“I am so glad I was able to write this letter on behalf our CEO, it makes me so proud to think that she was told about our charity and it’s work to combat loneliness and isolation. We will be getting the letter framed and it will take pride of place next to our Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service we received back in 2017. It means so much to us not only to be acknowledged for our charity work but to have made an impression on Her majesty”.
