Olmec lights the way for Sheffield
3rd December 2013
When Paul Lancaster set up Olmec Advanced Materials in Sheffield 15 years ago he probably had no idea that, by 2013, he would have been responsible for some of the most talked about lighting solutions, not only in Sheffield, but worldwide.
Originally supplying graphite to industry for aerospace semiconductor applications, Paul recognised a gap in the lighting market around 15 years ago in 1998, and set up Surelight.com, which almost immediately took off around the world with its range of electroluminescent (EL) lighting systems; later followed by the introduction of their energy saving LED Lighting. Most of Sheffield's residents and visitors will have been wowed by the amazing technicolour lighting display on the Staddle Building in Sheffield's Victoria Quays, but they probably don't realise that it was created using LED products supplied by local business Surelight.com, which is based in Millhouses. LED lighting is an amazing choice for those looking for spectacular effects such as this, as it has the added benefit of reducing energy bills, maintenance costs and carbon emissions qualities which have attracted customers all over the world. Close to home Surelight.com's LED products have lit businesses such as Sheffield's Studio 557, Eton, Age UK, Sickleholme Golf Club, Sheffield University, Network Rail's sleeper factory in Doncaster and hospices in Rotherham with its innovative lighting systems. Further afield in the UK, Red Bull F1 HQ in Milton Keynes, West Orchard Shopping centre in Coventry, the Boots premier store on London's Oxford Street, Transport for London (TFL) for the Thames Riverbus network and Berkeley Group Architects' luxury St James apartments in Chelsea have all benefitted from Surelight.com's LED Lighting. It doesn't stop there ether; with Surelight.com recently branching out into Africa, lighting safari parks, including Governor's Camp, and the luxury 5 star Sheraton Lagos Hotel in Nigeria. More international success looks set to follow soon as Surelight.com's products are Hollywood bound to create a film set vision of our future world in a blockbuster to be released next year. A closely guarded secret at the moment but watch this space! Surelight.com's EL products are the ones that have graced stages and TV, helping superstars such as Kylie, Coldplay (which included a show on American Idol), Sophie Ellis Bexter, Chris Rea and Franz Ferdinand create some of their most spectacular lighting shows. UK dance group, Area 51, also used Surelight.com lighting in its semi-final appearance on Britain's Got Talent, and internationally renowned TV shows such as Dr Who, Big Brother and Wallace and Gromit have dazzled audiences using Surelight.com's EL products and it's not just the stars that are given an extra sparkle by Surelight.com! Its EL products have created some amazingly creative effects for our mechanical friends too. Surelight.com's EL lighting enhanced the state of the art interior of Jagaur's stunning concept car, the C-X75, which featured on Top Gear, and Le Mans race lovers will also see Surelight.com's paper thin EL panels lighting the racing number panels on some of the most prestigious cars including Aston Martin, Peugeot and Lotus. So, whilst this ground breaking lighting company is lighting up the world with its amazing technology, don't forget it is just around the corner from you in Sheffield and, whether you are looking for head turning lighting solutions, or cost and energy saving options, we can help you and your business shine.
