On your marks, get set, row!
13th September 2013
An excited crowd will be gathering at Rother Valley Country Park in Rotherham on Saturday 14th September to witness and take part in The Rotherham & Sheffield Charities Dragon Boat race organised by local recruitment business, A for Appointments.
Dragon Boat racing is an ancient Chinese tradition and the fastest growing water activity in Britain today as well as the most fun! Up to 10 people paddle the 30ft boats which are decorated with brightly coloured Chinese dragon heads and tails; a drummer at the front beating time and a helm at the tail steering a straight course. This Dragon Boat event will see 24 teams drawn from companies, charities and community groups compete against each other in three heats, fighting for a place in the semi-finals and the final, to be crowned the winners! The teams, some who have chosen to race in fancy dress, hope to be successful on the day, but overall are intending on having fun and raising money for 16 local charities. Margaret Haywood Managing Director of A for Appointments said, 'The Dragon Boat race along with the bank side activities guarantees both participants and spectators a brilliant day out. Rother Valley Country Park is a great family friendly venue offering spectators great views of the race. As well as being a fantastic fundraising event, the Dragon Boat race is also a day where people can come together to celebrate all that is great about Rotherham and Sheffield!' The event will run from 9.30am to 5.00pm. Bank side activities include Face Painting, Art & Craft fun provided by The Creation Station (10am 2pm) and various fundraising stalls. There is a parking charge of £3.50 per car to park within the park grounds. Please contact Kerry Grundy on 0114 2757744, Kerry@aforappointments.com for more information.
