Onyx Group urges Yorkshire businesses to prepare for adverse weather

13th January 2015

IT firm Onyx Group has urged Yorkshire companies to consider their business continuity plans as weather warnings continue to be issued for much of the country.

Met Office official weather warnings for Northern England and Scotland say there may be power cuts, transport chaos and damage to homes and buildings, as well as implications for many organisations. The past few days has seen the region face strong winds and storms, and forecasters are predicting that Britain could be facing the worst winter freeze for a century with effects similar to the big freeze of 2010 which was reported to have cost the UK economy up to £13 billion with many businesses impacted by power failures, loss of data and absent staff. With eleven sites throughout the UK, including their Rotherham site which opened in 2010, Onyx Group serves some of the UK's best known businesses and has seen first-hand just how crucial it is for a company to have the correct business continuity plan in place. The national technology provider offers hosting, managed services, cloud services and backup to full business continuity for IT systems, and their workplace recovery centres enable local businesses to minimise any disruption in the event of an emergency. The company's Rotherham facility, a state-of-the-art business resilience centre located in Manvers, offers local businesses access to a 320-rack data centre and a 250-seat workplace recovery centre. National furniture retailer DFS, which has a head office in Doncaster, uses the centre for its business continuity procedures. One company who Onyx has come to rescue of in times of severe weather is Scotland-based blackcircles.com. James Eccleshall, Head of Operations at blackcircles.com, said: -Onyx have proven to be immensely valuable to Blackcircles.com and our commitment to customer service. Whilst bad weather in 2010 affected many businesses in the UK, the speedy invocation of our DR solution with Onyx ensured business ensured business continuity so issues went unnoticed by our customers. We now work day to day safe in the knowledge that should we be affected by weather or infrastructure problems, we have a tested contingency solution we can invoke immediately. Neil Stephenson, CEO of Onyx Group, said: -With winter well underway, the chances of flooding and adverse weather conditions further heighten the risks facing businesses. -We have worked with many businesses to incorporate a workplace recovery plan into their business strategy by providing them with a secondary site for their staff. -Having this in place removes the threat of prolonged downtime, loss of customer confidence and severe damage to their brand and reputation, and we are delighted to help businesses continue their day-to-day business activities, no matter what happens.
