Opportunities for Local Sheffield Businesses - A Good News Story

26th March 2012

In these difficult times, it seems that local companies' working together helps to produce success stories all around.

MC Photography, a local commercial photographer are currently celebrating its 20th anniversary year, was initially contacted out of the blue late last year by Opportunity Sheffield, an initiative to provide help and advice to help local firms. Steve Pilgrim the Account Manager from Opportunity Sheffield and Mark Crapper, Managing Director of MC Photography quickly identified that Marketing was the main area where the business would benefit from some support and Shelton Associates, a local Marketing Consultancy was drafted in to help. Assisted by funding from The Skills Enhancement Fund (which is co-financed by the Skills Funding Agency through the European Social Fund and funded by Yorkshire Forward) a detailed Marketing Plan was drawn up by Shelton Associates-this was the first time that MC Photography had developed a formal marketing plan. Mark Crapper says: After working on our marketing for the past few of months we have been very pleased with the progression that we have made. We feel that that help given by Opportunity Sheffield, Shelton Associates and the funding we received into the bargain as well has significantly helped to drive our business forward" As an additional benefit of the programme, Collette Hobson who provides a key support role in MC Photography was awarded one unit of the Level 3 Marketing NVQ as she takes on a more active role to promote and market the business. She says: Developing my role to include generating more business for the company is something that I have wanted to do for a long time-the support that has been given and the fact that I now have achieved part of a formal marketing qualification gives me much more confidence in making this happen" So, it just goes to show, that when times are hard, local organisations do pull together and work together to help generate future prosperity in the city.
