Owlerton staff commended for longevity

19th April 2018

Owlerton Greyhound Stadium has commended some of its longest-serving staff members after they clocked up almost 75 years of service between them.

Awards recognising 10 and 20 years of service respectively were handed out to staff from all parts of the stadium during an awards ceremony held at the neighbouring Napoleons Casino, which is also owned by A & S Leisure. Among those being commended was 62-year-old Cheryl Raybould, from Barnsley. Cheryl was recognised for having spent more than 24 years at the track, 20 of which have come under the management of A & S Leisure since the company took over the dog track in the late 1990s. During her time at the stadium Cheryl has worked everywhere, from being part of the ground staff to parading the greyhounds around the stadium following races and waitressing in the venue's Panorama Restaurant. Also commended was 30-year-old Chris Yale, from Parsons Cross, who like Cheryl has worked his way up from a litter picker to the manager of the maintenance department, working on building a strong team beneath him. Members of the venue's Tote team were awarded for 10 years of service, with 45-year-old Antonia Lowe, from Wharncliffe , and Michael Wynne, 29 from Parsons Cross, awarded for their longevity. Sudeesh Obula, 39 from Pitsmoor, has also been at the stadium for a decade, working in the Hare and Hounds Bar, the Panorama Restaurant and the venue's executive boxes in his time with Owlerton. Meanwhile 27-based Amy Lever, from Deepcar, was recognised for her service after starting off as a glass collector at the stadium before progressing to working in the venue's Paddock Bar, working split shifts for the last seven years. Dave Perry, general manager at Owlerton Greyhound Stadium, said: -Recognising our staff for their loyalty and longevity is a big part of our ethos at Owlerton, so I'd like to congratulate all of the staff members who were commended recently on their impeccable service. -Each and every member of staff here at the stadium adds to the fantastic customer experience we offer. The consistent high quality of service, particularly from those who have decades of experience between them, is what makes Owlerton tick.
