Passenger Numbers Soar at Yorkshire Airport

12th February 2015

A Yorkshire airport is celebrating having recorded a significant growth in passenger numbers over the last 12 months.

Figures releases by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) show that passenger numbers at Doncaster Sheffield Airport are up by 5 per cent year on year. The Airport's increase in passenger numbers is higher than the average national increase which stands at 4.3 per cent and sees the Airport take the top spot in the region for passenger growth. A total of four new routes were introduced at Doncaster Sheffield Airport in 2014, including Belfast, Isle of Man, Bucharest and Riga with a further two announced for 2015 including Zante and the Slovakian city of Kosice. In addition the airport's ever popular routes such as Alicante, Las Palmas, Dalaman, Palma de Mallorca, Reus, Poznan, Gdansk and Warsaw have all contributed to the overall rise in passenger numbers. The CAA figures come in the year that the airport celebrates its 10th anniversary. As well as the great news regarding passenger growth figures the airport has also been boosted by the news that the completion of the Finningley and Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme (FARRRS) is on schedule and set to be completed by January 2016. FARRRS will dramatically improve journey times to Doncaster Sheffield Airport and make the Airport even more accessible for passengers from across the region. Steve Gill, managing director at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: -We are delighted to see an increase in our passenger numbers and it is great to see people taking advantage of everything that their airport has to offer. -2015 is looking like it will be a great year for the airport as we have already announced our new route to Kosice, Slovakia with Wizz Air and we will also be introducing a new route to Zante in Greece. In addition Thomson and Wizz Air will be increasing capacity on their Tunisia, Riga and Vilnius routes respectively. -Once people realise how accessible the airport and the destinations we fly to are, they are keen to fly local and support the regional economy. -It is great to be able to offer our passengers a wide range of destinations to fly to and we are looking forward to continued growth. Doncaster Sheffield Airport offers flights to over 30 destinations. For more information, please visit www.robinhoodairport.com.
