Popular Teddy Toss is back for Steelers fans, and they’re on a Mission this Christmas

16th December 2022

Sheffield Steelers have once again teamed up with Cash for Kids Mission Christmas for their 2022 Teddy Bear Toss, and this year, City Taxis will lend a helping hand!

Taking place on Wednesday 21st December, the much-loved annual tradition will see fans throwing thousands of teddy bears and soft toys onto the ice rink for these to be donated to local charities.

This year, Cash for Kids Mission Christmas will benefit from this huge act of generosity as they aim to make sure no child goes without a present to open on Christmas morning.

Lee Fletcher, Cash for Kids Charity Fundraising Executive, said:

“As our Mission Christmas toy appeal comes to an end, we are absolutely blown away by the community’s support!

We want to help as many disadvantaged children as possible wake up to a gift on Christmas Day and could not do the work we do without the kindness and generosity of local businesses and the public.

We are absolutely thrilled to have the Sheffield Steelers on board again this year, and as a ‘Teddy Bear Toss’ first-timer, I’m really looking forward to being there on the night, with our friends from City Taxis.”

Last year, Mission Christmas meant that over 22,000 local children woke up to gifts under their tree, with £1.2 million being raised for them in both gifts and cash!

As an Official Partner of the campaign, City Taxis will be collecting the donated teddies into one of their electric vans before transporting them to Mission Christmas headquarters, ready to be distributed to children who need them most.

Sheffield Steelers Captain, Jonathan Phillips, said:

“There is something special after scoring a goal to see all these bears and soft toys hailing down towards you.

In the moment you’re just interested in scoring and think what’s going on as Paddington Bear hits you on the back of the head!

It’s a big deal when you look around and see hundreds of these toys over our ice, Steelers fans are the best and always support this event.

We applaud all at Hallam FM, who we have always enjoyed a great relationship with and their Mission Christmas appeal.

I just hope I get to score the first goal this year!”
