Popular Wi-Fi service launched on new Sheffield buses

13th February 2014

Free Wi-Fi for Stagecoach bus passengers has been introduced on a further four vehicles in Sheffield.

The facility has been launched on the new Enviro 200 buses, which recently entered service on Stagecoach's 123 service operating between Crystal Peaks and the city centre via Woodhouse and Manor Top. It was part of a £1.5million investment by leading operator Stagecoach, in December 2013, in a fleet of 13 new buses for Sheffield and Chesterfield. The ADL Enviro 200 buses feature the latest Euro 5 engines and are low-floor, easy access, demonstrating Stagecoach's commitment to providing the highest quality services for disabled passengers and wheelchair and buggy users. The new Wi-Fi facility means that passengers can browse the internet, check their emails and post on social media sites while travelling to and from work or leisure activities. Since Stagecoach first launched Wi-Fi on its Sheffield buses in September 2011, it has seen more than 53,000 unique users who use the service over 130,000 times a month spending an average of 21 minutes online. Stagecoach passengers also benefit from Wi-Fi on services 120, 52, X17 and 43. Paul Lynch, managing director, Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: -New technology is having a massive impact on many areas of life and none more so than on peoples travel choices and expectations. -With smartphones now the most common starting place for online activities, Wi-Fi is something that our customers look for as part of the company's service. -Our Wi-Fi facilities have already proved incredibly popular so we are delighted to extend these to our new buses operation on service 123 in Sheffield. -People now expect access to Wi-Fi on public transport and see it as an important part of their daily commute, helping them to communicate and keep informed. -As a company, we work hard to keep up with what our passengers expect and demand. We hope that customers will continue to enjoy the benefits of this new technology. For more information visit www.stagecoachbus.com/sheffield.
