PR firm puts best foot forward for charity

29th September 2015

Sheffield-based PR firm HR Media made strides for charity at the Great Yorkshire Run with two employees taking part in the annual fundraising event.

Phil Hammond, 23, and Joe Bamford, 21, both achieved their target times for the 10k race, with Phil coming home in 45:18 and Joe in 59:57. Phil, originally from Barnstaple in Devon, graduated from the University of Sheffield's Journalism Studies degree in 2014. He ran the race in aid of Sheffield Dog Rescue, a charity which has been close to his heart from growing up with his beloved Duke, who sadly passed away last year. -I had Duke since the age of seven so the decision on which charity I should run for wasn't a difficult one, said Phil. -I'd love to have another dog of my own but at this point in my life that's not possible! So instead I help out as much as I can by volunteering to walk their dogs almost every weekend. They're a small charity, so every pound helps. -Running today was the most unbelievable feeling, and the crowd was amazing, especially at the finish line. Joe is also a University of Sheffield's Journalism Studies graduate, and ran in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. He said: -Macmillan is a huge charity but still needs continued fundraising to provide outstanding support. -They helped my family through an extremely tough time and it means a lot for me to give back even just a fraction of what they have done for us. Without them, I doubt we'd have come through the difficult period quite as well as we did. -I can't put into words how incredible the race adrenaline rush is judging on my training times I was on course to finish in about 90 minutes so shaved half an hour off on the day! HR Media is South Yorkshire's leading PR agency, offering award-winning media relations, strategic advice and a full range of PR services at a local, regional and national level for private and public sector organisations.
