Prestigious SIV venues shortlisted for Welcome to Yorkshire White Rose Awards

Two Yorkshire venues have been named as finalists at the UK's biggest tourism awards.

Sheffield City Hall and Scarborough Spa, part of SIV Events, have both been shortlisted in the Business Tourism Category at Welcome to Yorkshire's 2014 White Rose Awards. Sheffield City Hall is operated by SIV on behalf of the charity Sheffield City Trust (SCT). A grade II listed venue, the venue opened its doors in 1932 and underwent a major refurbishment in 2005. One of Sheffield's most iconic landmarks, the City Hall is home to multi-function and entertainment spaces which attract in the region of 200 business events, 400 entertainment shows and 250,000 visitors every year. In the last 12 months, the venue has played host to major events including John Lewis' 150th anniversary dinner, the Royal College of Psychiatrists National Conference and the Urban Integration International Conference. Located on the seafront in the South Bay, Scarborough Spa is a grade II listed Victorian venue, with an extensive multi-function conference and entertainments centre which hosts 105 days of business tourism and almost 250,000 visits every year. Recent Scarborough Spa events include the Catholic Women's Conference, the ART Party Conference, Scarborough Sci-Fi Weekend comic convention and CAMRA convention. It puts the venues right up there with Yorkshire tourism royalty. -Both venues are extremely important to the local economy attracting a combined 500,000 people each year. At the 2013 event, Sheffield City Hall's 80th Anniversary Celebration was shortlisted for Tourism Event of the Year and Scarborough Spa was named as a finalist in the Business Tourism award. The Spa also made the shortlist of the same category in 2012, while the City Hall was nominated for the Business Tourism award in 2011. SIV won the White Rose Awards Tourism Event of the Year Award 2010 after hosting the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards at the Motorpoint Arena and iceSheffield and Sheffield City Hall took the Business Tourism of the Year title at the 2099 White Rose Awards.
