Race Equality Partnership for Sheffield: Public Statement
26th May 2026
As members of the Race Equality Partnership for Sheffield (REPS) advisory Council, Sheffield Chamber would like to share the following statement from Fatima Khan-Shah, Chair, Race Equality Partnership for Sheffield (REPS).
The Race Equality Partnership for Sheffield (REPS) stands in solidarity with communities from ethnically diverse backgrounds following the horrific attack at the San Diego Islamic Centre, the attacks on members of the Jewish community at Golders Green, alongside the deeply concerning anti-Muslim rhetoric and demonstrations seen over the weekend in London.
We recognise that incidents such as these have a real and lasting impact far beyond the locations in which they occur. They contribute to fear, anxiety and a diminished sense of safety and belonging for many communities, including here in Sheffield.
At moments like this, collective leadership and visible solidarity matter. REPS remains committed to working alongside partners and communities across Sheffield to challenge racism, Islamophobia, antisemitism and hate in all its forms, while continuing to promote a city rooted in dignity, inclusion, belonging and respect for all communities.
We encourage organisations, institutions and community leaders across the city to continue checking in with and supporting colleagues, students, residents and service users from ethnically diverse backgrounds, and to ensure that anti-racism and inclusion remain active commitments reflected through action as well as words.
Sheffield has a proud history of standing together across communities and differences. That collective spirit of solidarity and care is needed now more than ever.
Fatima Khan-Shah
Chair, Race Equality Partnership for Sheffield (REPS).
