Racecourse dazzles in purple

9th July 2018

Over £40,000 raised at Weston Park Cancer Charity's race evening in Doncaster.

Thousands of racegoers enjoyed a thrilling combination of top-class racing and entertainment at Doncaster Racecourse whilst raising a significant amount of money to support cancer patients across the region. Money raised from the Race Evening will help fund the Cancer Support Centre which offers free and comprehensive support to individuals and their families who are affected by cancer across South Yorkshire. The support is an invaluable lifeline for thousands of service users around the region, helping them and their families to live their lives as full as possible following their cancer diagnosis. Alongside the evening's racing, over 220 guests enjoyed corporate hospitality whilst a small army of volunteers helped with fundraising activities throughout the evening including auctions, raffles, tombolas and donations. Samantha Dixon, CEO of Weston Park Cancer Charity added; -We are absolutely delighted that our partnership with Doncaster Racecourse continues to grow year on year. This event is a highlight in the charity's calendar of events and we are thrilled, that with the generous support of businesses and individuals alike, we will be able to help support many more cancer patients. The evening's race sponsors included Buckingham Insurance, Napoleons Casinos, Blue Line Taxis, Ant Marketing, Weldricks and Alan Wood Plumbing and Heating. Race sponsor, and superintendent pharmacist, Richard Wells of Weldricks Pharmacy commented; -This was a great chance to demonstrate our support for Weston Park Cancer Charity in the town where we are based. As we employ over 600 staff, we know that cancer will be affecting one or more employees at any one time; so a charity that helps support them locally as well as many of our customers is important to us. Race sponsor, and CEO of Ant Marketing, Anthony Hinchcliffe commented; -We decided to sponsor a race to pay something back to Weston Park Hospital for the expert care the staff offer to the people of Sheffield. The first rate reputation of the team at Weston Park Hospital is to be admired, they have the best skills matched by a warm, caring environment - Sheffield at its best! Since launching in 2016, this unique event has raised in excess of £80,000 to create a better life for people living with and beyond cancer. Tim Banfield, executive director of Doncaster Racecourse, said: -It is fantastic the see our partnership with Weston Park Hospital help them to raise vital funds. -This event is getting bigger and better each year and we are thrilled to see the support that our regular racegoers give to the charity.
