Re-accreditation marks out Sheffield Business School as global benchmark for teaching

22nd February 2021

Four degree programmes led by Sheffield Business School have been re-accredited by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) – a globally recognised benchmark for the quality of teaching and learning.

EFMD Accredited is the most thorough programme accreditation system for business and/or management degrees and courses, including face-to-face, blended and online provisions. It constitutes a benchmark for what is considered an internationally recognised and peer-reviewed programme.

The accreditation covers all facets of programme provision: from its institutional, national and international environment, through its design, delivery, outcomes and impacts, to its quality assurance processes.

EFMD Accredited emphasises academic rigour, practical relevance, internationalisation, and ethics and sustainability.

The Sheffield Business School, which is part of the College of Business Technology and Engineering at Sheffield Hallam University, received the re-accreditation for three undergraduate programmes in International Hospitality Business ManagementInternational Hotel Management and International Tourism Management.

The International Business Management postgraduate course was also re-accredited.

On announcing the accreditation, the EFMD praised Sheffield Business School for its connections with the local business ecosystem, its applied learning and high level of graduate employability.

Professor Eileen McAuliffe, Dean of the College of Business, Technology and Engineering and the Sheffield Business School said: “Sheffield Business School’s re-accreditation by EFMD’s Programme Accreditation provides a global benchmark for the quality of our teaching and learning, the excellence of our student experience, and our efforts to continuously improve and innovate.

“We are particularly proud of the efforts we have taken to diversify and internationalise our flagship programmes and the personal support we offer to our students throughout their journey with Sheffield Business School. Staff and students are delighted with this achievement.”

Barbara Sporn, EFMD Programme Accreditation Director, said: “Congratulations to all the institutions for their accomplishments. The programme accreditation of EFMD is one of the most demanding yet effective ways to certify the quality of a programme in the field of business and management. This achievement confirms both schools’ commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.”
