Revving Up for the Buckingham Insurance Tally-Ho

Some 60 classic vehicles will be flagged off from Weston Park Cancer Centre in support of those living with cancer across our region.

Motoring into Sheffield for the third year, Weston Park Cancer Charity are delighted to announce that as a special thank you for the vital care and support those living with, and beyond cancer receive, this year's Buckingham Insurance Tally-Ho Classic Run will set off from our very own doorstep; seeing some 60 classic vehicles park up outside the Weston Park Cancer Centre from 8:45am on 12 May, allowing staff, patients and petrol heads to be involved in the start of the Classic Run. The event will once again take place in support of Weston Park Cancer Charity, who is the benefactor of many of Buckingham Insurances' fundraising endeavours, of which the Tally-Ho plays a major part. Since its inception, the Tally-Ho Classic Run has grown year on year and has attracted some magnificent vehicles, alongside classic car enthusiasts in their droves, which has helped to raise thousands of pounds in support of those living with, and beyond, cancer across our region. On the event, Business and Development Manager at Weston Park Cancer Charity, Darren Hayes said: -We are hugely grateful for the continued support of Buckingham Insurance, who backs us tirelessly in our mission to create a better life for cancer patients across our region. -This will be the first such classic car rally to set off from Weston Park Cancer Centre, and we would like to thank the many individuals involved, as well all those in attendance and taking part, for making this spectacular event possible. -Events like this are vital in supporting the work that we do, and we're honoured to be flagging-off the entrants from Weston Park Cancer Centre. If you are unable to join Weston Park Cancer Charity at the start line, there will be plenty of opportunities to observe along the route: Set in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, this year's event heads out of Sheffield at 10am from Weston Park Cancer Centre on the A5, until open country is reached with a right towards Stannington to meet the B6076. The route continues north, crossing the River Loxley and progressing through Worrall and Oughtibridge, before a gentle climb to Grenoside. Turning north through Grenoside Woods, a vast area of east Yorkshire is visible, before crossing the A616, which is quickly followed by a right in Wortley village. Continuing west off the M1 through Silkstone, Silkstone Common and Cawthorne, the route enters Mexborough, followed by a short stretch on the A636 and a left straight towards the Emley Moor transmitter tower. Whilst the short route continues towards the transmitter, the full route turns right in Emley village for a loop through Flockton and Middlestown, before a run down the A642 back towards the Transmitter. The whole entry then meanders, mainly on minor roads, via Shelley, Thunder Bridge and Thongsbridge, to the break at the Oil Can Café in Holmfirth. Following a hot drink and tray bake, courtesy of Buckingham Insurance at the Oil Can Café, the route climbs high to pass Winscar Reservoir, where a possible picnic spot will be sited. A left near Dunford Bridge takes the route east, then south toward Langsett, where a right enters the Strines Road to the east of the Broomhead and Bradfield moors. The shortened route continues on this scenic road for 12 miles until the A57. The full route follows this road until Wigtwizzle, and then to Broomhead and More Hall reservoirs before heading for High and Low Bradfield. A right towards the end of Damflask reservoir, towards Ughill re-joins the Strines road, shortly before the A57 where the complete entry turns left towards Sheffield, with a very steep ascent climb towards Fulwood Hall and on to Ringinglow, before joining the A625. The route then follows main roads towards the 'longabout' at Owler Bar and then, once through Holmesfield, turns right to the old A61 (now degraded to B6057) in Dronfield centre. In Unstone, the route climbs to Apperknowle and on to Staveley via Middle Handley. From here it is a short run on the A619 to Barlborough and the eventual finish in Clowne Community Centre, for a well-deserved cream tea. The Weston Park Cancer Centre car park will open for viewing at 8.45 am, with the classic vehicles due to be flagged off from 10am. Tea, coffee and breakfast sandwiches will be served. Entry is FREE.
