Roundabout supported record numbers of young people in 2025

26th January 2026

As it approaches its 50th anniversary, South Yorkshire youth homelessness charity Roundabout is supporting more young people and having a greater impact than ever before.

Roundabout provides vital support for vulnerable young people in Sheffield and Rotherham.

It is committed to ending youth homelessness and believes that with a safe place to live and tailored support, a young person can progress to independence and successfully break the cycle of homelessness.

And thanks to its increased activity in 2025, no young person under the age of 25 had to sleep rough in the communities it serves.

Roundabout has supported thousands of young people since its launch in 1977 and now assists more than 380 young people aged 16 to 25 every day.

The charity’s newly-published Impact Report shows that 1,807 individuals were supported across all the Roundabout services last year.

That figure includes 42 young people with complex needs who were helped by the Roundabout Rapid Rehousing service, 166 who received support with their tenancies, 684 who received In advice, 76 who received counselling and 49 were supported to access employment, education and training.

In addition, 54 families received mediation through Roundabout’s Talk It Out service, while 43 care leavers were supported through the Group Living programme and 101 received financial assistance to set up their new homes when they moved on.

Added to all that, 2,478 students were touched by the Roundabout Peer Education initiative, delivered by trained volunteers who have themselves experienced homelessness and received support from Roundabout.

They deliver eye-opening sessions in schools that aim to break stereotypes, explore the reasons young people become homeless using real life stories and inform young people of organisations that can help.

Roundabout Chief Executive Ben Keegan described 2025 as the charity’s busiest and most impactful yet.

“While I am deeply saddened by the rising need that drives this unprecedented demand, I am incredibly proud that, thanks to our dedicated team, no young person under 25 had to sleep rough in the communities we serve,” he said.

“Our innovative approach continues to evolve and in 2025 Roundabout became the delivery partner for Upstream, a pioneering school-based early intervention programme tackling the root causes of youth homelessness.

“None of this would be possible without the powerful collaborations we have built up with local councils, funders and community partners - their support has enabled us to meet the growing need with compassion and resilience.

“Together, we can build a future where every young person can grow and thrive in a place they call home.”
