Run Yorkshire Pudding Run!

13th October 2015

On Saturday 26 September, more than twenty Sheffield Young Carers supporters, including Chamber member Chris Muscroft, took the long road up to Inverness for the Baxter's Festival of Running.

In an amazing feat of Highland endurance, ten runners completed the 26.2-mile Loch Ness Marathon, five took on the 10k and another four completed the 5k race - all proudly securing a finisher's medal! The nineteen-strong team included the 'Yorkshire Puddings': seven super-Sheffielders who took on the challenge to mark organiser Chris Muscroft's 40th birthday. (Eighth member Simon Lewis, who first suggested the Loch Ness Marathon, was sadly unable to compete due to illness but deserves a huge amount of the credit for a fantastic weekend.) The Yorkshire Puddings were supported by the 'Sheffield Nessies': six SYC staff members (Lou, Laura, Cat, Ruth, Denise and Katie) and their friends and family members (Cate, Caro, Dave, Samuel, Gwyneth and Elizabeth). From our youngest ever fundraiser Samuel (aged seven) to first time runners Ruth and Laura, there was an incredible sense of achievement all round - not least for the ten marathon runners and of course Dave the Driver, who completed the 400+ mile minibus journey twice in three days! The nineteen runners were all willed over the finish line by the loudest cheerleading squad known to man, in the form of Lou Wright's lovely family and our very own Sara 'The Support Team' Gowen. But perhaps most importantly, the Yorkshire Puddings and Sheffield Nessies have now raised a stunning £6,900 for young carers all over Sheffield. An extremely heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported us so far - and a magic fundraising link, for those of you who would still like to! http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/yorkshirepuddingsdolochness To find out about more about Sheffield Young Carers, please visit www.sheffieldyoungcarers.org.uk or call Katie Borland on 0114 2584595.
