Selling to Defence

Sheffield Chamber of Commerce are delighted to be working together with the MOD and the Small Business Unit at UKTI Defence & Security Organisation.

  This seminar will give advice on how the MOD procure their services and how to find out about opportunities to sell to Defence.   It will also cover the Government support that is available for small business in the defence/security export market.   The Defence Suppliers' Service (DSS) is the MOD focal point for the provision of advice and guidance to companies (often SMEs) that are interested in becoming suppliers to Defence. As well as providing a help desk facility, as part of its 'outreach service', DSS also attends around 50 exhibitions, 'selling to Defence' seminars and 'Meet the Buyer' events across the UK each year. They also give 'Selling to the MOD' presentations on the various procedures and processes that the MOD uses to buy a wide variety of goods and services and how and where to access MOD tender and contract opportunities. All of these elements will be dicussed by Philip Margerison, Defence Suppliers Service - Manager. UK Trade and Investment's Defence and Security Organisation is the lead Government Department with responsibility for offering and supplying advice, information and support to UK companies seeking to win overseas business. Philip Margerison - Download Presentation Howard Gibbs has been in charge of the DSO Small Business Unit (SBU) since it was established in 2003. A career Civil Servant, Howard has previously worked at the London Passport Office and occupied a number of positions within the Ministry of Defence. He was with the Defence Export Services Organisation at the time of its transfer from the MoD to UKTI in 2008. The SBU offers and facilitates Government support and assistance aimed at increasing the amount of overseas defence and security business won by UK SMEs. Today Howard will be explaining how UK SMEs can access a wide range of advice, information and support for defence and security exports and will detail many of the services and expertise available from UKTI DSO.
