Sheffield-Based Stunning Cedar Panels Chosen for New Dairy

4th October 2013

A new administration building that has built in the South East for the UK's largest diary company, Arla Foods, is benefiting from stunning aesthetics and excellent thermal performance, with Western Red Cedar faced panels produced by Sheffield-based Panel Systems.

The striking external cladding system was specified by DLA Architecture, based in Wakefield and installed by HW Architectural, based in Brighouse and the main contractor was West Yorkshire-based Caddick Construction. Over 300m2 of Western Red Cedar faced panels and 210m2 of aluminium faced panels were supplied by Panel Systems to HW Architectural to be used to create the facade of the administration building for the dairy. The panels supplied achieved U-Values as low as 0.15 w/m2K, providing excellent thermal performance. The panels were bonded to a Polyisocyanurate core (PIR), which was specified for its high thermal resistance and green credentials. The planning requirements for this building, which is located in open countryside, required the use of natural materials to complement its surroundings. Danny Phelan, Sales Manager at Panel Systems, said: -This was a major contract win for us and demonstrates our expertise in producing attractive panels, with excellent insulative properties. The building complements its rural surroundings perfectly and we are proud to be involved with such an impressive project. The extensive 1,750m2 administration building also includes cafeteria, office and meeting space for staff at the dairy and is set to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating for its green credentials. Panel Systems provides design and technical support services for the production of architectural infill panels. Other materials available for fabrication by Panel Systems include anodised aluminium, high pressure laminates and pre-coated steels. Panel Systems manufactures a full range of bespoke composite panels that are used to create aesthetically striking and thermally efficient buildings. The company supplies architectural panels for a wide variety of commercial, educational and healthcare environments and is renowned for its aesthetics and performance.
