Sheffield broker claims early detection of escape water can help keep local businesses afloat

Sheffield broker IFM Insurance is urging local firms to carry our checks to combat escape of water, which can have a devastating impact on a business. An escape of water can cause local firms many issues including a burst pipe, backed up drain or a flood caused by heavy rain.

IFM Insurance says escape of water is a common claims cost, causing distress to thousands of businesses each year. It can lead to significant business interruption, including unplanned evacuations, and property damage, which can take a considerable amount of time to repair.

The benefits of early detection include:

• mitigation of the extent of damage that can be caused
• avoids large scale repair work
• keeps businesses trading
• reduces water bills

Jamie Harvey, a director of IFM Insurance said, “Many leaks are small and can often go months without being noticed, causing significant damage to properties before they are identified. So just spending a few minutes can help identify escape of water which could make a huge difference to a local business in terms of cost and inconvenience”.
