Sheffield Chamber reaction to todays statement by David Higgins on the re-route of the HS2 line

7th July 2016

Sheffield Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the statement by David Higgins today about the re-route of the HS2 line and the station relocation.

Jill Thomas, President and MD of Future Wealth Life Management said "We have campaigned hard to get the best solution for the region. These are big decisions and we must seek to maximise the benefits across the whole region, just like we did when we campaigned hard for the development of DSA and the new FARRS road. This is a great example of where active partnerships can influence government decisions and we must take these lessons into future projects." Richard Wright, Executive Director added "Sheffield Chamber will always campaign hard, and hold people to account, to make the best economic decision so we are delighted with this. Of course the work does not stop here. We will campaign equally as hard to get the right number of services through the station and the right connectivity from the station to the rest of the region. Equally we need to work hard with East Midlands trains to improve our existing services to London, Leeds and Manchester. HS2 is a long way away despite the decisions being made now and the economy needs to grow well before that."
