Sheffield Chambers of Commerce New Member re-unites members of the Ashes 2005 side to raise money for charity.

8th October 2012

Following a meeting with Michael Vaughan and Sheffield Collegiate Cricket Club, a Sheffield based events company, Iconic Event Management, was commissioned with the challenge to create Sheffield's best ever cricketing event, all in the name of charity.

The Michael Vaughan Cricket Academy, the Professional Cricket Association Benevolent Fund, and the Sheffield Children's Hospital were all to be the main benefactors of the significant funds raised. Inconjuction with Michael Vaughan and the Professional Cricket Association, the majority of the 2005 winning Ashes team were reunited for the Michael Vaughan XI vs England Legend XI at Abbeydale Sports Club, on Tuesday 4th September. 2005 Ashes stars Andrew Flintoff, Paul Collingwood, Matthew Hoggard, Steve Harmison, Simon Jones and Michael himself re-united to form the backbone of his cricketing XI.  Other players included Dan Walker and Robbie Savage.  Whilst David Lloyd (aka Bumble), Devon Malcolm, Neil Fairbrother, Philip De Freitas, Warren Hegg and Dean Headley all featured for the England XI. On the day the Ashes & England Stars provided Bowling and Batting Masterclasses and gave hints & tips to encourage youngsters to take up the sport of cricket and to develop the more experienced players into becoming professionals in the county and test arena. The day was a huge hit with the families of Sheffield as 2,000 people attended the star-studded event. Whilst local businesses supported the event by booking tables in the Michael Vaughan Hospitality Marquee where they were treated to a Q&A session with the Legendary Geoffrey Boycott, music entertainment from England Legend Mark Butcher and a sumptuous 5-course luncheon. The game itself was a huge success with Robbie Savage stealing the show with both bat & ball, hitting the prolific Devon Malcolm out of the attack and bowling Philip De Freitas first ball. The crowd and the hospitality marquee showed their appreciation of the event with applause and shouts for the event to be held again.  Iconic Event Management is working closely with the cricket club and the main sponsors of the event 'The P&A Partnership' to see what can be done in the future, so watch this space! -Iconic delivered an incredible event, it has been fantastic, thank you Michael Vaughan -I'm still blown away by yesterday's event at Abbeydale, simply stunning and huge thanks to Roger & Julie for all the time and event you both put on.
