When completed, the development will be home to a total of approximately 600 accommodation units, predominately 26-30sqm studio rooms, plus micro-flats. Jerry Cheung, managing director of New Era Development (UK) Ltd), the company behind New Era Square, said: -New Era Square has been more than 10 years in the making so we are delighted to see the first group of student apartments nearing completion. This is a landmark development for Sheffield, the region and the UK and represents substantial investment for the city. -We want to bring a distinct international feel to Sheffield and the ethos behind the development is very much to create a mixed-use space for the whole community, which will bring people together. -We are also extremely proud of the quality of the accommodation available and the site will provide residents with everything they need whilst studying in Sheffield. The exciting major project will also include retail units, food and drink outlets on the ground floor, leading out to an open-air square for events. The new KH Oriental supermarket will span two levels and will already be in place in the new building when the first students arrive. KH Oriental has operated in Sheffield for over 40 years and will be an ideal one-stop shop for students living in the Square to buy East Asian snacks and food. In the second phase of the development there will be business office space, an exhibition hall and a China Business Incubator to enhance enterprise and trade between China and the UK. Rents for the studio apartments in Phase One of New Era Square will start from £145 per month for contracts starting in September 2017.
