Sheffield City Trust’s Community Sports Van Returns This Summer!

11th July 2022

As the school holidays will soon be upon us Sheffield City Trust is gearing up its Community Team coaches to hit the streets of Sheffield with its sports van to deliver fun, free, and inclusive activities to children across Sheffield.

The sports van is part of Sheffield City Trust’s work in communities and after the pandemic, activities are restarting again this summer as well as this autumn and next spring, following high demand from community partners for this invaluable service.

Continuing the success of 2019, Sheffield City Trust is investing in double the capacity, with two sports vans and engaging sports coaches visiting various locations throughout the summer holidays from Monday 25th July until Friday 4th September.

Robert Womack, Health, Wellbeing and Partnerships Manager at Sheffield City Trust said:

“We are thrilled to be bringing our sports van back to the parks of Sheffield this year after it was so well received before the pandemic.

“Designed in conjunction with community partners, our team will be delivering activities for all age ranges and abilities, and we encourage all families to bring along their children and join in the fun.”

The sports vans will go into the heart of some of the most in-need neighbourhoods across the city on a rotational basis which includes Arbourthorne, Darnall, Firth Park, Handsworth, Winn Gardens, Manor, Westfield, Upperthorpe, Stannington and more.

Some of the sessions will also include visits by partner sporting clubs from around Sheffield including Sheffield Hatters Basketball Club, Sheffield Steeler’s Wheelchair Basketball, Sheffield Eagles as well as a range of local talented athletes and community groups.

Safiya Saeed who leads Reach Up Youth in Burngreave, supporting hundreds of young people each week, said:

“We are thrilled to be supporting this fantastic initiative. It is so important that young people have fun and free things to do during the holidays.

“It is great that Sheffield City Trust are engaging with communities and doing the things that our young people ask for and need most.”

Robert Womack continued:

“Our aim is to engage with young people during our activity sessions and make sure they have fun.

“School holidays can be really difficult for some families, and even more so at the present time. Here at Sheffield City Trust, we want to support local families to make sure children have a great summer.”
