Sheffield College dog grooming students appeal for canine friends

30th April 2021

The Sheffield College is appealing for the public to provide their pet pooches to groom.

Dog grooming students at Hillsborough Campus are in need of some canine friends to help them complete their assessments and develop their industry skills.

During their course, students learn about styling and finishing, bathing, drying, grooming, health and wellbeing, and canine emergency first aid.

Abby Bruce, Head of Academy, Animal Care and Land-Based Studies, The Sheffield College, said: “Our dog grooming students benefit from working with a variety of breeds to develop the skills to go further in their careers, and it’s great to see them return to campus following the gradual easing of national lockdown.”

She added: “We are appealing for dog owners to book their pets for a top salon experience and help our students successfully complete their courses. The College has a range of Covid-19 safety measures in place.”

Dog owners who want their pet pooches to benefit from grooming at a reduced fee are being asked to contact the College on info@sheffcol.ac.uk.

Students need to train with breed standard dogs including West Highland Terriers, Cocker Spaniels and Miniature Schnauzers, drop coat breeds such as Lhasa Apsos, Shih Tzus, Maltese and Yorkshire Terriers, and wool coat mix breeds with Poodle or Bichon coats such as Cockerpoos and Cavapoos.

The College’s dog grooming industry standard facilities, based at Hillsborough Campus, on Livesey Street, include electronic grooming tables, stainless steel baths, finishing dryers and good quality shampoos.

A range of Covid-19 safety measures are in place at the College to help keep everyone safe, in line with government guidance. For more information, visit our Keeping Safe at College FAQs.
