Sheffield Company plans Three Peaks challenge for Weston Park

20th June 2014

14 members of staff from Sheffield-based President Engineering Group (PEGL) are preparing to take part in a national Three Peaks Challenge on behalf of Weston Park Hospital Cancer charity.

The team completed a practice climb of the three Yorkshire Peaks challenge last weekend; climbing Whenside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent in under 12 hours. The team has already completed a number of practice climbs in the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Peak District to prepare for the national challenge. Weston Park Hospital Cancer charity is a cause that has been supported by PEGL for many years and is close to the hearts of its employees. The company's national Three Peaks Challenge, for which it is seeking sponsorship, will take place on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th June, starting at Ben Nevis, then Scafell Pike and finally Snowdon in Wales. John Waddington, operations director at PEGL, said: -We are delighted that so many of our staff are taking part in this challenge. We have had a great start to our fundraising efforts and are aiming to beat our target of £2,500 raised for Weston Park Cancer Charity. This is certainly a tough challenge and the climb this weekend in the Yorkshire Dales was great preparation for the national three peaks challenge at the end of June. Marie Cooper, finance director and Frances Crosland, commercial manager, will drive the team between the different locations, with the minibus donated for the tour by AFP Van Hire & Sales of Sheffield. The PEGL team will be clearly identifiable by their T-shirts featuring the PEGL and Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity branding at their National Three Peaks challenge. PEGL has undertaken many charitable activities in the past, raising hundreds of pounds for a variety of causes. It's Great Pie and Peas Up, held at the company's head office in March, raised £290 for St. Luke's Hospice. The Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity supports The Weston Park Hospital, which is one of only four specialist cancer hospitals in the UK. The charity funds cancer research, treatment and care.
