Sheffield Company rises to the Three Peaks Challenge for local Cancer Charity

8th July 2014

Nine members of staff from Sheffield-based President Engineering Group (PEGL) completed the national Three Peaks Challenge last weekend, raising over £3,000 for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.

The majority of the team completed the challenge within 24 hours, which started at Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Scotland, then Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England and finally Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales the following day. John Waddington, operations director at PEGL, said: -It was great that so many of our staff took part in the Three Peaks Challenge. It was extremely tough, but we encouraged each other and we enjoyed ourselves. We have had a great response to our fundraising efforts and we are delighted to be able to raise this money for a very worthy local charity. The nine climbers were John Waddington, Duncan Gaskin, Chris Brown, Nathan Wallhead, Jack Pickford, Martin Garnett, Gary Cooper, Richard Nicholson and Alex Brown. They were supported by Marie Cooper, finance director and Frances Crosland, commercial manager, who drove the minibus. The minibus was kindly donated for the challenge by AFP Van Hire & Sales of Sheffield. The PEGL team proudly displayed their T-shirts featuring the PEGL and Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity branding during the challenge. Before embarking on the challenge, the team completed a number of practice climbs in the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Peak District to prepare. Weston Park Hospital Cancer charity is a cause that has been supported by PEGL for many years and is close to the hearts of its employees. PEGL has also undertaken many other charitable activities in the past, raising hundreds of pounds for a variety of causes. The Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity supports The Weston Park Hospital, which is one of only four specialist cancer hospitals in the UK. The charity funds cancer research, treatment and care.
