Sheffield Educational Publisher takes home Excellence in Business Award

6th November 2018

The online educational publisher Twinkl has been named as the best company turning over between £10m and £50m at the Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Awards.

Based in Sheffield, Twinkl provides innovative online teaching resources used by educators and schools across the world. The majority of the team at Twinkl are current or former teachers, meaning all of the resources are teacher-created and quality checked. Twinkl received the award in a ceremony held yesterday evening at the National Railway Museum in York. Jonathan Seaton, Founder and CEO of Twinkl, said: -It is an honour to receive this award and be recognised amongst so many exceptional businesses based in Yorkshire. -The county is an excellent place to be as a digital business, with an array of talent in this field and a strong number of companies in this sector making it a hub for emerging technology and innovation. Twinkl was founded by husband and wife Jonathan and Susie Seaton in 2010 and was initially operated by the couple after-work from their home in the city. The idea for the business came when Susie was working as an Early Years and Foundation Stage teacher and struggling to find the resources she needed for her lessons online. Since 2010 Twinkl has grown to become a world-leading educational publisher, now operating in over 168 countries and with a team of over 460 members. The company's Head Office is based on Ecclesall Road in Sheffield and Twinkl also has an office in Wollongong, Australia. Twinkl has seen a number of successes this year, having received a Queen's Award for Enterprise in International Trade in April and being named as the Proud Schools Partner for BBC Children in Need in July. -This award is a testament to the incredibly talented team at Twinkl and the teaching community that has inspired us, added Jonathan. -Without them, we would not have seen the success we have. "Our aim has always been to help those who teach and I am so proud that with the support of the team and the teaching community we have been able to take this mission internationally and help all kinds of educators across the world.
