Sheffield engineering group sets sights on doubling hospice charity target

Sheffield specialist engineering group SCX has raised more than £10,500 for Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice and is now gearing up to hit a target of £20,000.

Presentation of the latest cheque, for £895, followed a carnival event in the SCX Group car park in Wincobank which attracted employees, family and friends. It took the total raised by the company since 2015 to just over £10,500. The group chose the hospice, which offers care and support to children with a shortened life expectancy, as its leading charity after it provided help to an employee's family member. Managing director Simon Eastwood said: -Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice is especially close to our hearts and it's been great to see the contribution we have made over the past three years. -As a company we are known for our work ethos and team effort and we have applied that to our fundraising. Now we are aiming to raise £20,000 as soon as possible to help finance the refurbishment of one of the sensory rooms at the hospice. Fundraising events have ranged from the summer carnival, dress down days, bake sales, pie and pea lunches and Christmas jumper days to tougher activities such as mountain bike and cycle challenges and the Tough Mudder endurance event. Many of the events have been organised by SCX Group Facilities Manager Jill Nichols. The 46-year-old family-run company encompasses the divisions of SCX Special Projects, Street CraneXpress and Burnand XH. Bluebell Wood cares for children and young adults both in their own homes and at its hospice in North Anston, near Rotherham. Every day it needs £11,000 to keep its doors open, with only around 10% of its funding coming from the government. Corporate fundraiser Dave Hall said: -We are extremely grateful for the support of the SCX Group and its commitment to continue helping us to care for children and young adults who are going through very tough times, both in their own homes and at our hospice. -We rely on support like this to keep our doors open each year, so we would like to say a massive 'thank you' to every single person involved.
