Sheffield firms remain at risk as the threat of cyber crime increases

23rd May 2022

Many SMEs in Sheffield could be unaware of the threat of cyber crime towards their business and according to IFM Insurance Brokers, many in Sheffield may have no protection in place to combat being the victim of a data hack.

The warning comes at a time when the National Cyber Security Centre has asked UK organisations to bolster online defences due to recent viruses and hacking of Ukrainian organisations that has formed part of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

What’s more, according to Aviva’s latest Risk Insights Report, a cyber-attack is the eighth most significant risk that businesses face.  It revealed that six-in-ten (62%) businesses said they were worried about the threat of a cyber-attack.

Jamie Harvey, a Director at IFM Insurance Brokers said,

“Cyber crime is a growing threat to all businesses in Sheffield particularly with the conflict in Ukraine and the increased cyber risk to small firms.  Therefore, local firms should evaluate their IT security and protection requirements to ensure they remain secure.  The insurance industry offers a range of solutions to help SMEs combat the threat of cyber hackers so business owners should contact their local insurance broker who can offer advice”.
