Sheffield firms remain at risk as the threat of cyber crime increases

27th May 2021

Many SMEs in Sheffield could be unaware of the threat of cyber crime towards their business and many may have no protection in place to combat being the victim of a data hack.

This is according to Sheffield Insurance Broker, IFM, and follows the latest Aviva Risk Insights Report, which rates cyber security incidents as one of the top five major risks that businesses in the UK are exposed to.  In fact cyber risk has dramatically increased over the duration of the pandemic as hackers have taken advantage of the continuous shift towards business digitalisation since the initial lockdown last March.

Worryingly only 32 of businesses reported having cyber cover in place, while 20 of business leaders don’t think they are exposed to any cyber risks.

Jamie Harvey, a Director at IFM Insurance Brokers said, “Cyber crime is a growing threat to all businesses in Sheffield and the tactics employed by hackers are becoming more sophisticated.  Local firms should evaluate their IT security and protection requirements to ensure they remain secure.  The insurance industry offers a range of solutions to help SMEs combat the threat of cyber hackers so business owners should contact their local broker who can offer advice”.
