Sheffield Freight Firm Lands National Industry Award

5th February 2016

A leading international freight management company has landed a major industry award in recognition of its commitment to staff development through a 'significant' training scheme.

512 (Sheffield) Ltd, which provides a full range of export and import services to businesses, took the Staff Development title at the British International Freight Association (BIFA) Awards Ceremony at The Brewery event and fine dining venue in London. Judges felt 512, based at the Sheffield International Freight Terminal (SH-I-F-T), 'showed commitment to staff development with the implementation of a significant graduate and management training scheme,' which 'encouraged staff to meet customers on a face-to-face basis, leading to staff growth and fulfilment, as well as bringing new blood and fresh ideas into the forwarding industry'. Karen Mosley, head of business development at 512, said: -We call our training scheme the '512 way' and this award shows we are definitely heading in the right direction. -We're thrilled to have won this national award, especially from BIFA, which has established a benchmark of quality for the British freight forwarding industry for more than a quarter of a century. As well as staff training, 512 also works in partnership with both the East Midlands and the Sheffield Chambers of Commerce to provide the International Trade Operations and Procedures (ITOPS) qualification. The ITOPS course, delivered by Fidelitas Training, enables students to build their knowledge of key import and export operations. Added Karen: -Our Sheffield office witnessed growth of 32 per cent last year and we also opened a base at Doncaster Sheffield Airport's Business Park the first of five sites we expect to open in the next five years to further support international trade opportunities across the South Yorkshire region. -But, while we have big plans for the firm's future development, this award demonstrates the importance of the personal touch in business at 512 we know our success depends on, and is driven by, our people. 512 manages up to 200 export consignments a day to thousands of locations around the world, providing support with airfreight, sea freight, courier, trailer documentation and insurance.
