Sheffield Hallam in top 10 UK universities for graduate success

Sheffield Hallam is in the top ten of all universities in the country for the overall number of graduates in highly skilled employment or further study, according to new data.?

Information from the latest HESA Graduate Outcomes survey tracks the outcomes of 2019/2020 graduates by surveying what they were doing 15 months after graduation. The data shows that 1,961 Hallam graduates were in highly skilled work or further study when they completed the survey. 

The University also ranks 6th amongst all UK universities for the overall number of graduates in highly skilled jobs, with 1,520 graduates from 2019/20 in highly skilled graduate-level jobs. 

In total, 96% of Hallam graduates that took part in the survey were in work or further study. This was a 2% increase on the results from 2018/19 data, despite the onset of the Covid pandemic in early 2020. 

Professor Kevin Kerrigan, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Business and Enterprise, said:

“These positive results demonstrate the transformative impact of higher education.  

 

“This is the first cohort of students to have graduated during the Covid pandemic, and it is fantastic to see that so many of our 2019/20 graduates have gone onto highly skilled jobs at a time of significant challenge and economic disruption.  

 

“It is testament to their talent and resilience, and also to our award-winning focus on work-based learning, employability and career support.” 

Sheffield Hallam has an overarching aim to provide the opportunity for students to apply their knowledge and skills in successful and fulfilling careers. For example, all 350 undergraduate programmes educating 24,000 students have real-world learning embedded at every level, including mandatory work experience and placements for every student. 

Sheffield Hallam also educates more students from low participation neighbourhoods than any other UK university. Last year, 23% of students enrolled by the University came from these areas compared to the UK average of 12%. 

This latest impressive news comes after the University was recognised for being the 2022 Educate North University of the Year, 2021 UK Social Mobility Awards University of the Year, and 2021 Times Higher Education Outstanding Entrepreneurial University of the Year.
