Sheffield Hallam University architects receive RIBA awards

Two architecture students from Sheffield Hallam University have been recognised at the 2016 RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Yorkshire Student Awards.

Ryan Fish and Rob Makey were two of just five winners to receive a RIBA Yorkshire Student Award for 2016. The awards, which are judged by a panel of the region's leading architects, celebrate and reward the talent and excellence of architecture students from universities across Yorkshire - with the winners announced at a prestigious ceremony in Leeds. Each architecture school involved was asked to submit design projects by their top two undergraduate and postgraduate students. Rob Makey was awarded a Bronze Award for his project, 'The Cabinet of Curiosities, Berwick-upon-Tweed'. Gabriel Tang, architecture tutor at Sheffield Hallam University, said: "We are so excited about Rob's success. His proposal for the Museum of Berwick touches on ideas of national identity, conceptually distinctive and exquisitely executed. His Bronze medal win is a testament to the architecture teaching programme at the University." Ryan Fish received a Silver Award for his project 'Liquid Assets, Stornaway'. Ryan's project also received the Best Presentation Prize, which is presented for excellence in drawing and presentation in order to highlight the importance of this in communicating ideas in architecture. The judges said of Ryan's project: "A stunning display of drawings and models. We were impressed by both the clarity and conciseness of explanatory information, and the atmosphere and detail of the high resolution visuals."
