Sheffield Hallam University to host national criminology conference

Sheffield Hallam University has announced it will be the next host of the British Society of Criminology (BSC) Conference - the UK's most influential and prestigious criminology event.

Organised in conjunction with the University's Helena Kennedy Centre for International Justice (HKC), BSC 2017 will take place from 4 - 7 July next year at venues across Sheffield with keynote lectures, presentations and workshops from a number of leading figures from the field of criminology. The event, titled 'Forging Social Justice: Local Challenges, Global Complexities', is expected to attract hundreds of practitioners, policy makers, academics and students from the criminology community across the world. Keynote speakers include Professor John Braithwaite and Professor Valerie Braithwaite (both Australian National University), Professor Fergus McNeill (University of Glasgow) and Dr Beth Weaver (University of Strathclyde). Sital Dhillon, head of law and criminology at Sheffield Hallam and director of the HKC, said: "The annual BSC Conference is hugely influential in driving forward the field of criminology through the encouragement of vital research, innovative policies and new methods of working. "The theme of the 2017 conference, which focuses on social justice at both a local and global level, reflects our desire to deliver real-world impact through our academic and professional practises. "Hosting the BSC Conference is yet another example of Sheffield Hallam University's ambition to be one of the leading providers of law and criminology courses in the UK and we look forward to welcoming leading figures from the field to our University and the city next July."
