Sheffield Hallam welcomes first Doncaster cohort to Help to Grow: Management programme

9th November 2023

Sheffield Hallam University has welcomed the first cohort of business leaders from Doncaster to the government-funded Help to Grow: Management programme.

The group of 28 senior leaders from 25 different small and medium-sized businesses started the 12-week course being delivered in Doncaster this week.

Help to Grow: Management is designed for  local business owners and senior leaders who are keen to grow their organisation. It is accredited by the Small Business Charter and 90 per cent subsidised by the government.

The University’s Sheffield Business School has supported the delivery of the course to 150 participants since it launched in September 2021.

One of those taking part is Vanessa Ogden from Orb Recruitment Ltd. She said:

"I've been thrown in to the role that I do and was therefore put forwards for the course by the CEO. Whilst I understand my job, I want to grow the businesses so this is an opportunity to learn the tools to enable me to drive the business forwards and help us get bigger and better."

Another member of the latest cohort, Robert Dovey, from Doncaster Security Operations Centre added:

"We're a small local business that operates nationally. We operate 24 hours a day with a small team that runs the operation. The managers are now focussing more on growing the business, and whilst we've benefitted from other support available, this course seems like the next level to develop myself and take the business forwards."

Professor Conor Moss, Dean of Sheffield Business School at Sheffield Hallam University, said:

“We’re delighted to be supporting senior leaders from Doncaster SMEs to further develop their ideas, their people and their businesses. We have delivered this leadership programme to over 150 participants and have seen the impact the Help to Grow: Management course has had on SMEs in building resilience within their businesses and in driving growth. As a civic university we’re committed to our region and I’d like to welcome this latest cohort of Doncaster leaders and businesses to the programme.”

Help To Grow: Management is a national course delivered locally by University Business Schools. Find out more on eligibility criteria and register for the Help to Grow: Management course.
