Sheffield Hospitals Charity Launches Virtual Walk for Wards
22nd July 2020
SHEFFIELD Hospitals Charity, the official charity of the NHS in Sheffield, has launched its annual ‘Walk for Wards’ event. And this year, it is going virtual.
Walk for Wards is one of the charity’s biggest fundraising events, raising thousands of pounds a year to support local patients and staff across Sheffield hospitals.
But just because the charity can’t hold the physical event this year, it doesn’t mean that the people of Sheffield can’t get their walking shoes on and make a difference to their local NHS.
All you have to do is take on a walk of any distance during September to support our amazing hospitals in Sheffield!
Adrian Stone, Chairman of Sheffield Hospitals Charity, said:
“Unfortunately we are all having to adapt to the current government guidance, meaning that this year’s Walk for Wards event will be a little bit different – but that doesn’t mean that it will be any less special.
“This year, the event takes place when our NHS needs our support more than ever. Throughout this pandemic, staff are working around the clock to care for us all and so what better opportunity to show them our support?
“We want as many people as possible to get involved, to get walking and to make this event bigger and better than ever before. Virtual or not, this is going to be special.”
The benefit to this event being virtual is that local people can walk WHEREVER and WHENEVER they want throughout September. Whether it’s a city route or a walk across the Peak District, there is something for everyone.
All people need to do is follow four steps to take part:
- Register using the form on our website – If you’re walking as a group, we just need one of you to sign up.
- Set your fundraising target. £15 is the minimum sponsorship you should go for but there is no maximum! The more you raise, the more we can do to help patients and staff in our local hospitals.
- Set up your fundraising page. We recommend linking with our JustGiving campaign.
- Set your distance and get walking! Walk 5K, 10K or any distance you like.
