Sheffield Information Link - WOW Project

8th April 2013

We have been successful in achieving funding from Awards 4 All to run our WOW Project Wider Opportunities for Work Please see below for more information on the project.

This is not a one size fits all back to work or into work programme. We are recruiting clients now for our first round of training and support if you work with anyone who you think might fit the bill let us know and we can get in touch with more information. (there are no restrictions to how long someone needs to have been unemployed for) Sheffield Information Link WOW Project The WOW project aims to provide employability skills and development opportunities to people within hard to reach communities by tailoring the progression route to meet the needs of the individual accessing the service, rather than a one size fits all approach. The scheme is aimed at people who are unemployed who need an extra boost or leg up to get them into the workforce for example but not restricted to lone parents, carers for example. Once an assessment has taken place, learners will be offered access to the following training opportunities: confidence building and personal development basic computer skills building a CV and completing a job application job search interview skills mid-life career changes (if appropriate) 1) At the assessment stage we would also identify if there are any basic skills needs of the learners and if so we would engage them with existing programmes for this aspect of their learning before bringing them back into the WOW scheme. 2) The learner will then be given opportunities for engaging with work experience or voluntary work to enable them to identify any job types that they enjoy and want to move onto. Their personalised action plan will be agreed, which will include 10 hours of mandatory contact time, plus 3 additional sessions which they would be entitled to participate in to further enhance their learning and employability skills. Midway through the journey they will have a mid-session assessment to ensure that they are still on track from their initial assessment, and at the end of the journey they will have a final assessment to discuss the way forward and finalising their evidence portfolio. Each client will have their own key worker. We believe that by tailoring the individuals' journey to meet their specific needs we can move them towards achieving their goal of becoming economically active, and by involving them in this process they will have ownership of their journey. We aim to improve the confidence and raise the expectations of each individual who engages with our programme.
