Sheffield Institute of Arts Launches Exhibition

12th June 2014

Sheffield's biggest student-led exhibition launches this week, showcasing some of the most creative art, design, fashion, photography, film and animation the city has to offer.

The Sheffield Institute of Arts at SheffieldHallamUniversity opens its doors to the public on Saturday 14 June for its 2014 degree show, held at venues around the University's city campus. With origins dating back to 1843, Sheffield Institute of Arts is at the heart of Sheffield's creative community, and has produced many successful artists. Head of the Sheffield Institute of Arts, Professor Sally Wade, said: "This is a great opportunity for everyone to come and see some really creative work by students of nearly 20 different disciplines. "We have a strong heritage of producing talented artists and designers like David Mellor, George Shaw, Godfrey Sykes and Harry Epworth Allen, but we can also claim a role in shaping most of the creative talent here in Sheffield. "Jarvis Cocker studied fine art here in the 80s. During the day he was sitting in lecture theatres and painting in the studio, and at night he was writing songs and performing with Pulp. Warp Films producer Mark Herbert studied film here, Nick Park made his first animated short while studying here, and Marina Lewycka wrote her first book while she was studying creative writing here." The degree show is one of the biggest student exhibitions in the North, and attracts interest from national industry experts as well as those with an interest in the arts. The 2014 exhibition includes work from the following disciplines: Animation • architecture • creative art practice • design technology and education • digital media production • fashion • film and media production • film and visual effects • fine art • furniture and product design • games design • graphic design • interior design • metalwork and jewellery • photography • product design To find out more about the show, including locations and opening times, visit www.shu.ac.uk/degreeshow
