Sheffield Racing Star Secures Maiden GB3 Podium at Hungaroring

14th July 2026

Sheffield teenage motorsport star, Rowan Campbell-Pilling, claimed his first GB3 Championship podium at the Hungaroring last weekend, where he was promoted to third in race three.

His first time racing at the F1 circuit, Rowan averaged speeds of over 120mph and managed 14 technical corners, where speeds of up to 150mph were reached. During testing, the teenager made good headway qualifying in P6 and P9 within the 20-strong international field.

Following a challenging weekend, where the 19-year-old placed across the results table, Rowan secured his first GB3 podium in race three, after post-race penalties amended the final classification.

Rowan said: “I’m over the moon to celebrate my first GB3 podium. To take third place in round three highlights the amount of hard work we’re putting in as a team – both during preparations and out on the course - to achieve a good result.

“Experiencing these tracks in a car this powerful has kept me on my toes, but I’m absorbing all these new challenges and to be running inside the top ten consistently this season, within such tight margins, is an unmatched feeling.

“From watching F1 at Hungaroring as a youngster to now enduring the track in the racing seat is so surreal and such an honour.”

For the last two years, Rowan has collected over 30 trophies and awards making his way into the top 10 standings in British Formula 4. His international debut last year with Xcel Motorsport also led him to achieve three further trophies, and he was crowned third place, overall, in the F4 UAE Trophy Series.

This success resulted in his signing to Xcel Motorsport, for his GB3 debut, the proven step to FIA Formula 3 and beyond.
Rowan is currently ninth in the overall standings of the championship. This weekend marked the midpoint of the season as Rowan raced at Red Bull Ring in Austria. The next race will take place back in the UK at Silverstone on 1-2 August.
