Sheffield station's Cycle Hub: EMR urges customers to retrieve bikes before April 27

- Bikes left at Sheffield station's Cycle Hub were removed so refurbishment could take place - Despite efforts to alert customers many bikes still remain uncollected - Owners have until April 27 to collect them or they will be donated to charity

East Midlands Railway (EMR) is urging customers who have left their bikes at Sheffield station's Cycle Hub to collect them before they are donated to charity.

The Cycle Hub has recently been refurbished, and to allow that work to take place, EMR requested owners to remove their bikes.

Along with social media and website posts, notices, bike labels and posters were placed throughout the station and the hub from December, advising customers to collect their bikes.

Despite this, many bikes still need to be collected by their owners. EMR does not have the space to store the bikes long term and is therefore asking owners to collect their bikes by 27 April or they will be donated to charity.

EMR is working with A Different Gear, an independent, community-owned, not-for-profit bike shop and workshop based in Heeley. It has agreed to take the bikes and manage the process of returning them to their owners. Any bikes left with the charity after 27 April will be considered a donation.

Matt Stacey, Head of Property at East Midlands Railway, said: "We have tried to give bike owners as much notice as possible to collect their bikes before the refurbishment took place.

"The majority have retrieved their property, but a significant number of bikes are still awaiting collection. We are really grateful to A Different Gear for assisting us in this process and hope we can return all the bikes to their rightful owners.

"However, they cannot store these bikes indefinitely, and any that are not collected by 27 April will be donated to the charity, with the proceeds reinvested into the community.

"If you have left your bike, please get in touch with A Different Gear, or if you know someone who may have left theirs at the station, please let them know about the deadline."

How to collect a bike

Bikes can only be collected by appointment from A Different Gear during shop opening hours. Anyone coming forward to collect their bike should email shop@adifferentgear.com.

To claim a bike, owners must prove ownership. All bikes have been stored with their original locks, so owners must bring their lock's key and be able to unlock it.

If they no longer have a key, they must provide proof of ownership via a frame number or purchase documentation.

Speculative enquiries will not be accepted. If individuals cannot prove that the bike is theirs using one of the three methods listed above, the bike shop will not be able to return it.
