Sheffield Theatres Takes Part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge

30th November 2021

Sheffield Theatres will celebrate the Crucible’s 50th Anniversary with the city – bringing people and communities together to get creative. We need your help to raise £50,000 between 30 Nov - 7 Dec to support two brilliant projects!

Sheffield Theatres are taking part in The Big Give Christmas Challenge with the aim this year to raise £50,000 in order to support two important new projects. Celebrating our 50th anniversary with the people of Sheffield, we’re encouraging donations during the challenge week, which starts at noon on 30 Nov, Giving Tuesday and runs until Tuesday 7 December.

The money raised will support two brilliant projects during our anniversary year: a bold new Sheffield People’s Theatre show that will showcase local talent, and a new intergenerational choir that will bring together schoolchildren and adults living with dementia to share the joy of singing. Online donations are accepted from 12 noon on Tuesday 30 November, and we only have one week to raise £25,000 in order to unlock the £25,000 matching pot, donated by The Big Give and GRI Group, one of Sheffield Theatres’ closest supporters. This means any donations will be matched, making double the difference to participants!

WHERE WILL THE MONEY BE USED?

Sheffield People’s Theatre (SPT) is our intergenerational theatre company made up of participants aged 12 to 90, drawn from across the city. With the funds from The Big Give, they will create and perform a new show especially commissioned to celebrate SPT’s 10th anniversary and the Crucible’s 50 years. Members of SPT are given the opportunity to explore their creativity and grow their skills and confidence alongside industry professionals at Sheffield Theatres.

Money raised will also be used to build a brand new Dementia Friendly Intergenerational Choir. Opportunities for shared experiences have been reduced by the impact of Covid-19. A choir will help to increase understanding and connections across generations, and provide a safe place for schoolchildren and adults living with dementia to have fun, be creative and build friendships. Over 16 weeks the group will learn and rehearse songs for a performance at the Crucible.

Your donation will help us to create both these brilliant projects, to spark imaginations, celebrate and allow participants to explore their creativity.
