Sheffield Urban Cyclo specialise in running cycling events in the urban environment is returning to Park Hill to run the Park Hill UpRise, Urban Hill Climb with races for all generations and abilities to take part in. The Park Hill UpRise is an event for both experienced riders and anyone who wants to have a go, so includes junior, adult and Brompton Bike categories.
Westfield Health are title sponsor and the event also has support from local cycle shops J E James Sheffield and the Giant Store Sheffield. Entry fees start at £5 for the younger junior race, £8 for older juniors, with adult and Brompton Categories coming in at £12. It's also good to give something back to the local community, so we have decided to split 100% of the entry fees between two local charities, Roundabout, a South Yorkshire youth shelter project and Woodhead Mountain Rescue, part of a national network of Mountain Rescue units who assist and rescue anyone using Sheffield and neighbouring Peak District's more rugged open spaces. Dave Capper, Westfield Health CEO explained why Westfield Health are keen to support this exciting event
‘The Sheffield Urban Cyclo event combines so many things that are important to Westfield Health: getting outside, getting active, and challenging ourselves to find the resilience to conquer some of the biggest ups and downs that our home city has to offer. That’s why we’re incredibly proud to be the title sponsor of this year’s race and to help raise money for some vitally important local causes.’
Sheffield Urban Cyclo event manager, Adam Simmonite has an inclusive approach to the events he organises.
“We want people to see our events and say, ‘Oh, I’m going to have a go at that’. It’s going to be great to see how the Brompton race unfolds (pardon the pun). Sheffield Urban Cyclo events have always been about highlighting cycling in the urban environment and the short course and challenging climb is a great way to highlight some urban commuter heroes, club riders, have a go heroes, and all riders in between. I’m looking forward to seeing individuals, groups from clubs or businesses from the cycling city of Sheffield on the start line on the 25th March”
Sheffield Urban Cyclo are keen to highlight cycling as transport also and they are encouraging riders and spectators to get on their bikes to get to the event. The location of the race is close to some great traffic free links to Sheffield center and beyond, so why not make an afternoon of it. Park Hill is a great spot to explore Sheffield, with links to the canal basin, 5 weirs walk and Norfolk Park.
