Sheffield Wednesday Take Business Games Crown!

2nd July 2015

A team from Sheffield Wednesday FC's Community Programme was crowned winners of the South Yorkshire Sport Business Games.

More than 80 people and nine teams took part in the second Business Games event at Sheffield Hallam University Sports Park, competing in four sporting challenges. The teams tried their hand at archery, ultimate Frisbee, touch rugby and rounders, with the Hillsborough-based team coming out on top as overall winners. They beat B. Braun Medical Ltd's 'Soup-a-Stars' team and previous winners Sheffield Hallam University Sport into second and third place respectively. There were also awards for Sean Mills, from Santander, and Ria Millington, from Plusnet, as the man and woman who best embodied the spirit of the games. The Business Games are part of the Workplace Challenge initiative, a national programme from County Sports Partnership Network funded by Sport England which aims to engage workplaces in sport and physical activity. Other organisations taking part included South Yorkshire Police, Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School and Sheffield United Community Foundation. -We had a great time, got to do some different activities and have a laugh we really enjoyed it, said Matt Bray, Social Inclusion Manager for the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme. -It was a good way to get all the staff together rather than just going out for a few beers. It's been really good and everyone played in a good spirit. Sean Mills from Santander added: -It's the first time we've done anything like this but we're definitely looking to do more. -There's not much running around in our job so to get out from behind the desk and do something as a team was great. Nigel Harrison, chief executive of South Yorkshire Sport, said: -We would like to thank Hallamshire O2 Touch Rugby Club, Sheffield Steal Ultimate Frisbee Club, Aardwolf Archers and Rounders England for their help in making the night a success.
