SHU Law: The innovative teaching law firm

5th May 2020

SHU Law is a law firm with a difference. We educate the next generation of lawyers, whilst providing not for profit legal advice.

We offer services to members of the public in the following areas: personal injury, criminal injuries compensation, disputes, employment law, prison law and criminal appeals. We promote the values and principles of Sheffield Hallam University’s, Helena Kennedy Centre; extending access to justice to those who may not have the budget to pay for solicitor’s fees or who have previously been unable to seek legal advice and/ or representation.

Similarly, we can support other local lawyers who cannot service client work due to proportionality issues.

The plans for SHU Law had been in the making for many years but the vision became a reality on 27 February 2019 when SHU Law launched. 15 months down the line, SHU Law is going from strength to strength.

Students, during all three years of their undergraduate degree programme, are involved in client work, which provides them with key employability skills and a unique type of ‘work experience’. SHU Law is fortunate to have experienced practitioners, academics and students working as a team to produce tailored advice for its clients.

Looking to the future, SHU Law is keen to further ‘collaborate to innovate’ by partnering with other law firms, charities and organisations in a bid to expanding access to justice on a wider scale.

SHU Law is truly a fusion of education and legal practice, providing an exceptional and first-class service to its clients.
