Singers get back together for Macmillan

29th October 2014

A quartet of singers are getting back together again after two decades to perform a special concert for Macmillan Cancer Support Singers Unlimited, who haven't performed together since the 1990s, will take their audience on a journey from Hollywood to the West End at the fundraising event.

It will be held at St Oswald's Church Hall, Abbeydale Road, Sheffield, on November 8 and will include music from Gilbert and Sullivan, Mozart, West Side Story and the Beatles. The concert is the latest charity event organised by Mary McCready, one of Singers Unlimited, who has already raised nearly £1,200 for Macmillan. She said: -I, like so many other people, including my fellow performers, have all lost members of our families and friends to cancer. -I have seen the tremendous work done by Macmillan nurses and cannot speak highly enough of them. They are truly inspirational and deserve all the support they can get. Her previous fundraising endeavors include the first Macmillan Mammoth Quiz in Sheffield, as well as a grueling 5k charity run in August that she completed in a record time of 32 minutes. Singers Unlimited formed after singing together with the South Yorkshire Opera. For six years they entertained as an after-dinner cabaret group but disbanded because of members moving away from the area. Mary, of Millhouses, and her fellow singers Caroline Dyson, Michael Hawley and Nigel Rothery will have musical accompaniment from former teacher and choirmaster Hugh Finnigan. Tickets are £12 and are available by emailing musicandconcerts@outlook.com or calling 01142 365 740.
