Six hours. Not long, is it?

28th November 2012

But for most young carers, it's longer than you'd think.

On average, a young carer spends six hours caring for their loved ones, each and every day. Doing the housework. Administering medication. Washing and dressing their siblings. In fact nearly one quarter of the young carers we help spend at least fifty hours caring each week. For most of us, six hours isn't long it's not even a full day at work.  But if you're a young carer (and some are only eight years old or younger), it really eats into your childhood. Sheffield Young Carers is a registered charity. We're here for young carers in Sheffield. And we rely on support like yours. Six hours isn't long... Will your business give six hours to help young carers? In just six hours, our support workers can: provide four one-to-one sessions, offering support and advice to the most vulnerable young carers run two of our regular group activities, where young carers can have fun and make friends organise a day trip, to give young carers a break from their caring. What could your business do in six hours? From running the Sheffield Half Marathon to donating your time or your venue, there are lots of different ways you can help. And because we're Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Charity of the Year, you'll get some fantastic free PR in return! Whatever you decide to do, you'll be helping young carers like Eden. (You can read Eden's story here). If your business can help, please contact Sheffield Young Carers today. Simply email katie@sheffieldyoungcarers.org.uk for some great fundraising ideas and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. Alternatively you can call us on 0114 2584595, or visit www.sheffieldyoungcarers.org.uk Thank you for taking the time to care. PS If you've only got six minutes, you can make your donation now via our Virgin money giving site. Thank you!
