Skyline advances plans for adventure leisure development at Parkwood Springs

Skyline Enterprises, a New Zealand-based sector leader in adventure tourism, is advancing plans to transform the former ski village site at Parkwood Springs into a major new leisure development, with a planning application expected later this year.

Skyline has agreed a strategic framework with Sheffield City Council, establishing a shared commitment to unlock the long-derelict site, which sits one mile north of Sheffield city centre.
The proposed development, which would bring forward a landmark visitor destination for the city, would be delivered in multiple phases.
While the final mix of attractions is still being refined, the first phase would include Skyline's signature gravity-fed downhill karting attraction (Luge), alongside a family playground, food and beverage offering, and an indoor attraction. A zipline and surf wave experience remain key elements of the site's longer-term vision, while dry ski slopes are also being explored as a potential future addition.
A public consultation on the proposals is expected to launch in September, providing local residents, businesses and stakeholders with an opportunity to learn more about the proposals and provide feedback ahead of a planning application submission later this year.

The project will also support better connections between Parkwood Springs, Neepsend and Kelham Island. It sits alongside wider investment from Sheffield City Council in the surrounding area, including a £19 million Government Levelling Up grant being used for a new access road, junction upgrades, and site improvements designed to support traffic flow and future visitor numbers.

Skyline has appointed leisure development specialists Omisa Ltd as project management partners, alongside Willis Hazell Engineers, Patersons (engineering) and Griffith Evans (MEP). Multiple Sheffield-based firms will also play key roles, including Hadfield Cawkwell Davidson (architects), Ares (landscape architects), Weddles (environmental), Urbana (planning) and Counter Context (communications).
