Cyber crime advice for SMEs

South Yorkshire firms remain at risk to the threat of cyber crime

Many SMEs in South Yorkshire could be unaware of the threat of cyber crime towards their business and many may have no protection in place to combat being the victim of a data hack.

This follows latest research by insurer AVIVA which revealed 21 of SMEs have suffered a cyber incident or attack in the past 12 months.  However 34 have no cyber insurance cover.  The survey also showed that the most common cyber incidents described by businesses comprised major system failures or outages, theft of funds or phishing, malware infections and ransomware or extortion attempts

Alister Smith, a Director at IFM Insurance Brokers said, “Cyber crime is a growing threat to all businesses in South Yorkshire and the tactics employed by hackers are becoming more sophisticated.  Local firms should evaluate their IT security and protection requirements to ensure they remain secure.  The insurance industry offers a range of solutions to help SMEs combat the threat of cyber hackers so business owners should contact their local broker who can offer advice”.
